Workzone G1.3.2 Report
Updated 12/14/2023

Summary

This small area is on the summit of the sled hill, just below the sumac shrubs. The area is wet during the spring, and is dominated by sedges and rushes. Species of note include indian grass, little bluestem, stiff goldenrod, Prunus americana and Rosa carolina.

There are several invasive forbs in need of immediate control. Teasel is the predominate invasive, and the rosettes under the sumac shrubs are particularly menacing. The shrubs will be thinned in 2018 to allow spraying of the rosettes. Spot herbiciding of teasel rosettes will occur each fall after native plants have gone dormant.

Reed canary grass promises to be a problem, as it is encroaching from the southern slope of the hill. Will attempt to cut the grass in late summer of spray in October.

Other invasives include purple loosestrife, spotted knapweed, and canada thistle.

2018-07-28 This area (zone 9) has a patches of both little and big bluestem, plus a native rose creeping along the ground, but mostly short sedge and rushes. Prime area for reseeding. Will spot check rosettes in fall, and spray under sumac shrubs after thinning. This is the second year of teasel control.
