Workzone F2.1.2 Report
Updated 12/14/2023

Summary

The boundary of this workzone consists of the woodland trail to the north and east, a deer trail to the west, and the ephemeral pond to the south. The majority of the brush is located in the ephemeral pond to the east of the workzone, and is made up of honeysuckle. Some buckthorn is also present, and a patch of bittersweet spotted. Possibly a single small burning bush. Clearing the wetland is a priority, as it is home to a number of quality sedges (Carex grayi, C. lupulina, C. muskingumensis) and a breeding ground for chorus frogs. Spring flora consists of toothworth and cresses, spring beauty, violets, mayapple, phlox, trillium, trout lily, jack-in-the pulpit, green dragon, wild ginger, buttercup, geranium, Virginia & great waterleaf. Great blue lobelia and false nettle are found later in the season, and by end of summer the wetland is dominated by tickseed.

2018-01-21 Worked in wet woods adjacent to a vernal pool, while ground was still frozen and accessible. Known plants in the area include muskingenum sedge [10], gray's sedge [8], hop sedge [8], green dragon [8]. If Plants of Concern species Lycopus rubellus [10] is still to be found, it will most likely be near by.
