Unit F2 - Historic Wet Woods
This is one of the most important units, as it has remained wooded throughout the years, being part of the pre-settlement "Big Woods" that extended up to Batavia. Therefore it takes priority over most other units. Since it is a wet woods, volunteer work is confined to late fall and winter when the adult mosquitoes are no more.
The workzones are grouped into five sections.
South (F2.1)
The section comprises of the southern part of the woods, sandwiched between the trail that starts near the shelter and the old road that begins at the residence. In the middle of this section lies a wetland that is flooded in the spring and is home to a number of woodland sedges. This has number of spring ephemerals not found elsewhere, such as hepatica, duthchman's breaches and spring cress.
Central (F2.2)
This is the largest section of the woods and is bound by the woodland trail. The first two workzones are to the wetland the cuts thee wood from north to south.
East (F2.3)
This is the eastern section of the woods.
West (F2.4)
The western sections consists of 5 workzone of different habitat types.
