Reptiles
Not a year goes by without spotting a snake slithering at Oakhurst. I confess that my reptile identication is not the best, but I am aware of four or five species of snake and a single turle species. Common garter snakes are the species you come across the most, and the similar plains garter snake may also be present. Around the lake you will also find the much larger fox and water snakes. On top of the hill you will often find green snake, although I confess I am not sure whether they are 'rough' or 'smooth'. As far as the turtle, the only species I have seen is the painted turtle.
